DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY BRINGS AWARENESS TO HEART HEALTH
February 5, 2021
OUR MEMBERS INVITE YOU TO JOIN US IN BRINGING AWARENESS TO HEALTHY HEART INITIATIVES
Early in 2005, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. became the first sorority to form a partnership with the American Heart Association in its “Go Red for Women” campaign to educate women about heart disease. In February of each year, members of the sorority set out to
bring awareness and remind the Talladega Community of the heart problems that affect the lives of women in particular, but also children and men. In Alabama, heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases claim more than 16,000 lives yearly while also leaving thousands more with disabilities that impact the quality of their lives. In February 2013, the sorority became the first to launch the “Go Red Wear Red” campaign for chapters at the local community level to share the importance of living a healthy lifestyle while also educating women about heart disease. Heart attacks and other cardiovascular diseases are America’s No. 1 killer and claim the lives of 1 in 3 women and men yearly. THE NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY IS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2021. Please join us and wear your red in support of this worthy initiative and TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEART.
